The Old College Try

As the buyer's dollar became more & more elusive (see The Economy), more & more businessmen were going after sales last week with the old college try:

¶| In Seattle, an insurance salesman refurbished an old trick to sign up the uninsured. He got pictures of unsuspecting prospects, had an artist brush in the lines, sags and bags they might have at 65, and confronted the subjects with the question : "What are you doing to take care of this fellow?"

¶ In Manhattan, Rootes Motors, Inc. rented out its British-made Hillman autos for as long as two weeks with gas...
