In B.A.'s River Plate Stadium last week, the soccer championship of the Americas was at stake. From the stands 85,643 spectators watched the match: Argentina v. Brazil. A bottle hurtled among the Brazilian players. A free-for-all started. On the playing field time was called for an hour and 20 minutes. When the Brazilians demanded protection, police responded by enthusiastically beating two Brazilian forwards, Jair and Chico. Worst casualty: the Argentine captain, a compound fracture of the leg when kicked by Jair. Score: Argentina 2, Brazil o, international amity, a black eye.
