Americans, WPB reported after questioning 5,000 families in 68
localities, are bearing up nobly under the wartime sacrifices of
consumers' goods. What really bothers them is not the big things so
much as the lack of such simple but indispensable doodads as bobbie
pins, metal pot scourers, flashlight batteries, elastic, safety pins,
and waterproof pants for the baby.
