World Battlefronts: Subs v. Subs

In a new effort to cut Allied supply lines in the Pacific, Japan has diverted some of her submarines from fleet opera tions to attacks against Allied merchant shipping. Jap subs have been sighted all along the shipping lanes from the Tonga Islands to the southeast tip of Australia.

Last week Allied Headquarters announced the loss of five freighters off the Australian coast. But, said the announcement: "Our shipping continues to operate in virtually undiminished volume. . . ."
