The Brazilian Government angrily announced
last week that U-boats had sunk five more Brazilian ships, one loaded
with troops, off the coast between Bahia and the state of Sergipe.
Though 13 other Brazilian vessels had been sunk previously, these were
the first in coastal trade. The Vargas Government, denouncing the Axis,
promised the crimes would not go unpunished.
