SALARIES: Threat, Freeze

For the first time, a responsible Government official last week foreshadowed Federal control of corporation salaries. To 1,000 Detroit Economic Club members.

SECommissioner Ganson Purcell said: "It may prove to be wise to insist that corporate salaries be reasonably restricted." Purcell would like to set up a temporary wartime Government agency with specific control over all corporate earnings.

Four days later, Canada's Finance Minister James Lorimer Ilsley froze all managerial salaries in Canada at the level of Nov. 6.
