To the story that Lieut. Commander Walter Winchell, U.S. Naval Reserve, was not wanted by the Navy at a desk in Washington (TIME, July 7), the Navy last week reacted by paying him tribute. It declared itself well pleased with the services that Lieut. Commander Winchell (a member of the Naval Reserve since he was commissioned as a full lieutenant seven years ago) is now performing—helping Navy publicity and recruiting in his column and broadcasts.
