One afternoon last week some 30,000 screaming Filipinos hopped up & down in a frenzy of enthusiasm around the shores of Manila Bay. For hours they and most of the white population of the city had perched on every vantage point along the water's edge, craning their necks toward the East and watching a giant scoreboard across which a miniature plane moved in little jerks.
