During a daily audience last week a Noble Guard (honorary Vatican attendant) stood by Pius XI's side. He asked if the Holy Father, 75, did not find it fatiguing to stand long hours receiving thousands of pilgrims. Replied the Pope:
"Don't you ride horseback every morning to keep fit?"
"Yes."
"Well, what riding is to you, audiences are to me."
