Music: Strike

The musicians who toot and twiddle in Chicago's theatres are now paid salaries which range from $57.50 to $87.75 per week. Seven hundred of them, the musical personnel of 35 theatres, have decided that this is not enough money. They want an increase of 10%. Through their union, they demanded the boost. The theatre owners proposed a compromise on a 5% raise. The musicians shook their heads, issued an ultimatum, stood pat, scheduled a strike to begin on Labor Day unless their demands are met in full.
