Gessler, Minister of Defense, made a speech to the Reichstag in which
he said: " Will a nation of sixty millions remain impassive while our
brothers in the Ruhr are being strangled by white and black
Frenchmen? Our defence army of 100,000 may not accomplish much, but I have no
doubt that a well-organized guerrilla war on our own soil would soon
end with the enemy's destruction."
