Colleges: Coeds for Sarah Lawrence

One by one, the nation's women's colleges are consummating liaisons with nearby male universities or otherwise abandoning the single life. Latest is Sarah Lawrence, in Bronxville, N.Y., which last week announced that it is going coeducational. The opening of the spring term will find six male students among the 580 Sarah Lawrence women. All are upper-class transfers from such men's colleges as Amherst, Haverford and Yale. Up to 25 more male transfers will be admitted next September.

Eventually, Sarah Lawrence plans to become fully coeducational, although the transition will be slow. One sound, pragmatic reason is that not too many men...
