The New York World Journal Tribune was barely buried before other publishers began speculating about the vacant slot in the city's afternoon field. The New York Times, the New York Daily News and Time Inc. all acknowledged that they were considering the possibility of publishing a newspaper. The paper they talked about differed, of course, in many respects from the one that folded. But just what sort of paper would it be?
