THE PRESIDENCY

"I am going to be 59," said Lyndon Johnson last week, "and I can't run as fast as I could when I was 40. Matter of fact, there are some other things I can't do as well as when I was 40." It has proved an important birthday for other Presidents as well. At 59, Andrew Johnson was impeached, Benjamin Harrison lost his bid for reelection, and F.D.R. brought the U.S. into World War II.
