The average American neighborhood now has
enough television sets to suggest that wonderful fellow of Eastern
legend, mighty Bayan of the Hundred Eyes. According to 1960 census
figures, U.S. TV has become a sort of Bayan to the fourth power.
Whereas 12% of U.S. homes had sets in 1950, a record 88% have them now,
and 11% of all homes have more than one working eye.
