¶ For the first time since 1920, the Harmsworth Cup, symbol of world supremacy in powerboat racing, left the U.S. as Canada's Miss Supertest Ill, owned by Jim (Supertest gasoline) Thompson of London, Ont, defeated Maverick, owned by Phoenix Millionaire (oil, cattle) Bill Waggoner. In winning the cup, Miss Supertest set a new course record of 104.098 m.p.h.
