¶ When Pro Tennis Champ Pancho Gonzales, 29, heard that he and Lew Hoad, 22, Australia's recent convert to play-for-pay, were scheduled for last week's Tournament of Champions at Forest Hills' West Side Tennis Club, he intimated that Wimbledon Champ Hoad was not yet ready for big-time tennis (TIME, July 22).
