¶ The National Council of Churches announced some glowing statistics from its forthcoming 1953 Yearbook of American Churches. U.S. church membership has reached an alltime high of 92,277,129, a gain of 4.1% over last year, and 2½ times the nation's population gains. Protestants gained 3.9%, Roman Catholics 3.5%. Protestants now represent 34.7% of the population, Catholics 19.3%.
