¶In Ogden, Utah, aging (36) Light-Heavyweight Champion Archie Moore outpointed Joey Maxim, 31, from whom he took the title last December, to win a 15-round decision.

¶In Dundee, Scotland, U.S. Open Golf Champion Ben Hogan, warming up for the British Open, arched Scottish eyebrows by posting consecutive scores of 69 and 70 for his first two practice rounds on the rugged, 7,200-yd Carnoustie course. Record for the course in tournament competition: 70.
