The Press: Number Three for Mercury

When American Mercury Editor William Bradford Huie got the backing of Millionaire J. Russell Maguire to keep the magazine from folding, Huie said he would keep editorial control of the magazine or quit. Last week Huie quit, effective Jan. 1. Fortnight ago, two of his top editors also resigned because of what Huie called Maguire's "indiscretions with the Christian Front crowd" (TIME, Dec. 8). Said Huie: "[We had] irreconcilable policy differences. It was a struggle to see whether Maguire got out or I did."
