¶ The National Council of Churches of Christ reported that the collection plates of 47 member churches yielded $1.5 billion in 1953-54, an increase of $136 million over 1952-53. The most generous givers were Seventh-day Adventists, with an average yearly contribution of $173.35 apiece. The next five, in order: Wesleyan Methodist Church of America, $170.39; Church of the Nazarene, $118.33; Orthodox Presbyterian Church, $112.56; Evangelical Mission Covenant Church of America, $109.03; Conference of the Evangelical Mennonite Church, $107.78.
