¶ In the wake of a similar decision by the Louisiana legislature (TIME, July 19), Governor Hugh White of Mississippi announced that he too would lean on the police power of his state to get around the U.S. Supreme Court's decision against segregation in the public schools. "I am," said he, "going to see this thing through to make certain that Negroes never enter the white schools."
