The Press: Two Years

Two years ago, Associated Press Correspondent Bill Oatis was arrested by Czech Communist police, haled into court on a trumped-up "spying" charge, and sentenced to ten years in prison. Last week, on the second anniversary of Oatis' imprisonment, the A.P.'s board of directors and newspapers all over the free world called on the Communists to free Oatis.

Said the A.P. board: "Freedom-loving people everywhere continue to denounce the detention of Oatis and demand his release. The Czech government thus far has turned a deaf ear to pleas based on humanitarianism, and has been equally unresponsive to the economic and political pressures imposed...
