Manhattan's Communist Daily Worker has been so hard pressed for money that early last month it presented its readers with an ultimatum: unless subscribers came across with a full $50,000 in contributions, the paper would have to fold (TIME, Dec. 15). This week the Worker triumphantly announced that it had reached its goal. Where the Worker got the money was still a mystery.
