THE SOUTH: Slightly Solid

In Louisiana, a hotbed of Dixiecrat rebellion four years ago, the Democratic State Central Committee last week voted 77-9 to put the Stevenson-Sparkman ticket on the ballot under the rooster symbol, traditional emblem of the Democratic Party. The surrender was not unconditional: the committee told Louisiana citizens that they could vote for Eisenhower in November and still remain Democrats in good standing. It also repudiated the national platform planks dealing with civil rights, FEPC and Senate cloture.
