Coffee is the No. 1 U.S. import. Last
year, according to the Department of Commerce, the U.S. bought
$1,361,000,000 worth of it, almost all of it from 13 Latin American
countries. This was about 12% of all that the U.S. spent for goods from
abroad, and it was 40% of all Latin American overseas sales.
