Caught between the demands of the draft and next fall's schedules, college football coaches were beginning to lobby for a return to World War II rules.* Last week, falling in behind the Southern and Pacific Coast Conferences, the Midwest's Big Ten also decided to let freshmen compete in varsity sports. The conservative Eastern College Athletic Conference, still hemming & hawing, finally hedged the problem by ruling that colleges with less than 1,000 undergraduate enrollment (which excludes the Ivy League) may also let the boys play with the men.
