This back pat, sent to Manhattan newspapers his week, was an answer to a blast at the Met signed by 28 advanced abstractionists a fortnight ago (TIME, June 5). The protesting avant-garde artists had felt sure hat the Met's jumbo, jury-selected show contemporary U.S. art scheduled for December would exclude most abstract tainting of the sort they favored.
