¶ A majority of the 250 presbyteries of the Presbyterian Church of the U.S.A. (northern) has approved a proposed merger with the United Presbyterian Church. Combined with United Presbyterian enthusiasm for the union, the formation of a 3,000,000-member new denomination is thus virtually certain. Its title: the United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America.
