POLITICAL NOTES: The Smear That Failed

Right up to election eve, his enemies spared no smear in their efforts to unseat able, 43-year-old Mayor Frank Zeidler of Milwaukee. A few days before the election, supporters of Alderman Milton McGuire, Zeidler's opponent, published advertisements (later repudiated by McGuire) which declared that Milwaukee was infested with marijuana and liquor-crazed juveniles and that "hoodlum mobs" ranged the city "with wolf-pack viciousness."
