Two famed New England colleges an nounced that they would build elaborate new art centers to strengthen the role of the creative arts in the life of the liberal arts student.

A stone's throw from its "collegiate Gothic" Green Hall, Wellesley College will put up two ultramodern buildings containing a 350-seat combined theater, lecture and recital hall and a gallery for art exhibitions.
