A Place in the Sun. In Red Bank. N.J., the Chamber of Commerce protested a telephone-company decision to name the town's dial exchange "Shadyside.'' argued that the proposed name would have a "hick-town connotation."

Sales Force. In Los Angeles, the Phil Hall Buick Co. got a $20.93 bill from the traffic department after the elephant it rented as a promotion stunt tore the top off a parking meter, smashed it on the sidewalk.
