SMALL BUSINESS: Model Production Line

Two New York manufacturers, Joe Slonim, 38, and his brother Sam, 35, produce more tanks, warships and planes for the armed services than all the rest of U.S. industry combined. Last week in their one-story, red brick plant on the outskirts of Manhattan, the production line of Slonim brothers' Comet Metal Products Co. Inc. turned out 4,500 tanks, 800 planes and 5,000 warships—all accurate scale models (from ½ in. to 2 ft. long) of real fighting machines.
