IDEOLOGIES: Carrots of the World ...

Manhattan's buoyant Symon Gould, vice presidential candidate of the Vegetarian Party (TIME, March 22), last week dispatched an open letter to Britain's eminent austeritarian and anti-meat man, Sir Stafford Cripps. Wrote Gould:

"All social-minded citizens of the world deeply appreciate [your] principles of Socialism, practical Christianity, ethical Vegetarianism. ... It is indeed fitting that the country which gave humanity two of its greatest philosophical vegetarians, the poet Shelley and the great visionary Sir Thomas More/'"*should now bestow upon you the forthcoming role of a British Moses. ...
