Notes on U.S. customs, habits, manners & morals:

¶ The Census Bureau reported that the U.S. had gained approximately 2,279,000 residents in 1946, the greatest one-year population spurt in its history. Estimated total U.S. population: 142,673,000.

¶ A jury of eight men and four women in Los Angeles voted to disinherit two Irish setters which had been bequeathed $30,000 by their master. The jury learned that Owner Carleton R. Bainbridge had believed that the dogs could talk, that he had read bedtime stories to them.
