Colombia's new-dealing President Alfonso LÓpez is respected throughout South America as a statesman of vision and intelligence. But the exuberance of Colombian politics sometimes unnerves him. At such times he offers the Senate his resignation. LÓpez has offered to resign because of 1) a political scandal following the murder of "Mamatoco" (an obscure Negro boxer), 2) a division in the ranks of his political supporters, 3) his wife's illness, 4) Colombia's humid political atmosphere.
