With the approval of the Allies, their cobelligerent, Italy, this week declared war against her ex-Axis ally, Japan. Said the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry: "On the eve of the Potsdam conference . . . Italy thus takes up her post . . . in full equality of duties . . . striving at equality of rights." Said Alberto Tarchiani, Italian ambassador to Washington: "We hope soon to become Allies ourselves."
