General Dwight D. Eisenhower arrived in London to command the western invasion of Europe. Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Force announced that he had talked in Africa with Prime Minister Churchill (see p. 52), had crossed the Atlantic for conferences with President Roosevelt and Chief of Staff George C. Marshall. General Ike spent his first Sunday in London at work.
