An unabashed new group, the American Veterans of World War II, has begun bidding against the big three veterans' organizations of World War I. The new group, known as AMVETS, is only one of scores of new veterans' organizations that bloomed last summer. But two months ago AMVETS began a beanstalk growth, has since formed a loose confederation with 114 other World War II groups. High-powered AMVETS now claims 125,000 members, has a suite of offices in Washington, D.C. Last week it called on the remaining organizations of World War II veterans to meet in Kansas City next month...
