Second-generation Italians made a clean sweep of U.S. baseball honors in
the season just past. Joe DiMaggio, native of San Francisco's
Fisherman's Wharf, was voted the American League's Most Valuable
Player. Dolph Camilli, another San Franciscan, was voted Most Valuable
in the National League. Phil Rizzuto, New York Yankee shortstop, was
the outstanding rookie of the year.
