U.S. citizens are still caching their cash at a high rate. The Securities & Exchange Commission reported last week that individuals' liquid savings hit $1 billion during the second quarter of 1949, or $200 million more than the same period last year. Most of the increase in savings found its way into insurance policies, pensions, stocks and bonds.
