Selective Service officials were well aware that Harry Truman wanted no draftees sent off to training camps until after Election Day. Furthermore, the armed services' volunteer recruiting campaign was going great guns. So, last week, Selective Service officials had no trouble finding several operational reasons for putting off the start of inductions to the second week of November.
