Hotels: Outbreaks in Texas

Texas had double trouble last week:

¶ The worst outbreak of infantile paralysis in the state's history has struck down 195 people since Jan. 1; the worst previous record for the same period was last year's 73 cases. Hardest hit was the Rio Grande Valley.

¶ Fifty-eight babies have died of infant diarrhea in San Antonio's untidy West Side Mexican slum district during the past month, shocking the city into a belated cleanup campaign. D. A. Richmond's coffin factory was working overtime filling orders for its smallest size: a two-foot pine box, covered with white lambskin cloth, that sells for $15.
