London's Communist Daily Worker advertises itself as the only paper in town owned by its subscribers. As "a regular subscriber . . . and therefore a part owner," Major T.V.H. Beamish, a young Tory M.P., lodged a complaint. Why hadn't the Worker invited him to its pro-Soviet "Conference for World Peace" in July? The flustered Worker replied last week: "An invitation will be issued to the Conservative Party, although its leaders can hardly be regarded as the upholders of a peace policy." Subscriber Beamish, it added, would be invited too.
