¶ The New Orleans city council adopted an ordinance calling for a bus line to replace the streetcar named Desire.

¶ In nine eastern states, another trout season got under way. By the thousands, fishermen struggled out of bed before dawn, bundled into several layers of clothing, pulled on their waders, tuned up their tackle, gulped hot coffee and were off. As light broke, they slogged into the ice-cold waters of such favorite streams as the Wiscoy, the Willowemoc, the Ausable, the Beaverkill and the Lackawaxen.
