The newest addition to the list of Republican presidential prospects was Connecticut's ex-governor and freshman Senator Raymond E. Baldwin, 54. In a letter to national committeemen last week, a Connecticut colleague urged Baldwin's nomination as "a man of action, foresight, vigor and vision." Baldwin made his mark in Washington by insisting on a louder voice for newcomers in GOP councils. With Connecticut's 19 convention votes in his pocket, his influence was bound to be stronger than ever.
