OPINION: Just in Time

For a few minutes this week Henry Wallace forgot himself. "It is important," he said in a newspaper interview, "for Russia to know there is a point beyond which she shouldn't go without awakening resistance. . . . There are certain boundaries, such as central Turkey, beyond which Great Britain and the U.S. should fight."

Then he recovered. He did not mean "should fight," he gulped. But if Middle Eastern oil was threatened by Russia, he was sure the U.S. "would fight."
