FRANCE: Sealed Train

French leftists, with a view to ousting Dictator Francisco Franco, have long toyed with the idea of embroiling France and Spain. Last week their chance rattled down the rails of history in the form of a sealed train bringing back 500 Spanish workers and a clutch of Spanish diplomats from Germany, via Switzerland.

At Chambery, in France, the train stopped. A mob formed. Word went round that the train was carrying home the Blue Division (Spaniards who fought with the Germans against Russia). With iron rods, clubs, stones, bottles, the French went to work on the passengers.
