From Canada's maverick William Herridgea left-winger now, but a Conservative when he served as Minister to the U.S. from 1931 to 1935came this advice last week to Franklin Roosevelt:
"I know that political soothsayers maintain that . . . Mr. Roosevelt's best bet in 1944 is to put aside reform and stand on his record as Commander in Chief. I register an emphatic dissent. . . . Mr. Roosevelt can run successfully for a fourth term only if he . . . offers a greater New Deal."
