IF YOU WANT TO ENLIST—Regulations on enlistments differ in the four branches of the U.S. armed forces. Here are the chief qualifications:

Army takes men from 18 to 36, accepts older men if they have served before. Married men must have affidavits showing that their dependents will be cared for. To reenlist, they must have their wives' consent.

Navy takes volunteers from 17 to 50, but they must have special skills if they are over 36.

Marines take men from 17 to 30 for first enlistments, accept men up to 35 if they are re-enlisting. Only...
